Is Rnb copying popular hip hop trends?

Over the last 15-20 years RnB and Hip hop have been categorised together through  100s of collaborations which have shaped each genre and have gained new sorts of listeners, in todays musical landscape the charts are dominated by similar sounding records with some very catchy and infectious ostinatos, hooks and melodies- this is especially true in the aforementioned genres with hits mainly following a DJ Mustard style formula which is good music but it is becoming repetitive as artists don’t trust their creativity. Modern RNB has a wave of very talented vocalists such as Miguel, August Alsina, The Weeknd, Jhene Aiko, Tinashe, Janelle Monae, Trey Songz along with many others  who are able to express their thoughts over the clearest production due to technological advancements . Yet many artists revert to following others in fear of losing their fan bases- This should not characterise the music we put out, artists can inspire a whole generation with their words yet they choose to follow trends such as disrupting their women, talking about shooting and killing, being opulent and disregarding our need for role models.this is not meant to come across as preachy but we should try to revert back to making good music by talking about our experiences and trying to expose listeners to differing styles.
